The sale of Barnsley FC to an investor consortium has been named as Insider‘s Deal of the Month for December 2017.
The Cryne family sold the club to a consortium led by Chien Lee of NewCity Capital and Pacific Media Group, which is headed by Paul Conway and Grace Hung.
Chien Lee and Pacific Media Group led a group which purchased 80 per cent of OGC Nice in June 2016. Lee is currently chairman of the supervisory board at the French club where Conway also acts as a director.
Other investors include Neerav Parekh and Billy Beane, who was the subject of the Moneyball book and film.
At the time of the deal, Conway said the investors planned to further enhance the academy, playing squad, commercial operations and fan experience at the club.
The Tykes are currently 18th in the Championship after 26 games of the 2017/18 season.
Alexander Jarvis of Blackbridge brokered the deal and introduced the parties.
